Online Communication
Online communication is an ongoing system that must be constantly monitored and maintained. One has to keep accounts, usernames, and passwords separate while trying to respond to both colleague, friend, boss, and peer. I have reflected about all the types of online communications I have used and have added some to my never-ending resume. In the past, I have been using online blogs such as Facebook, wikispaces, and Myspace to stay in touch with friends and colleagues. Recently, I have keep a wikispace to post various links to websites, activities, pathfinders, and media projects. This of course was used for a graduate course, but I hope to continue using this wikispace in the future. I have posted my assignments for my students on two online programs. The one I am currently using allows parents and students to both new and old assignments and current grades. This has been a great online tool for me to communicate with parents. Emails and text messaging have always been a tool I have utilized for years. Recently, I have signed on for a listserv dedicated to educators. I am currently in a discussion group talking about lesson plans, classroom management, and math ideas. I am really enjoying these discusses with fellow educators around the country. I hope to continue these discussion groups in the future. With the constant change in technology, our communication with each other has almost been entirely online. I hope that the face-to-face conversations do not become a thing of the past, but these conversations can been enhanced and improved by utilizing online communication.
